I have the honour to speak on behalf of the European Union.
The Candidate Countries Croatia* and the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia*, the Countries of the Stabilisation and Association Process and potential candidates Albania, Montenegro and Serbia as well as Ukraine, the Republic of Moldova and Armenia align themselves with this statement.
Mr. Chairman,
At the outset, let me thank the Chairman of the Independent Audit Advisory Committee (IAAC), Mr. David Walker, for presenting the annex to the report on the activities of that Committee for the period from 1 August 2008 to 31 July 2009.
The European Union would like to thank the IAAC for its observations, comments and recommendations on the effectiveness, efficiency and impact of the functions of the Office of Internal Oversight Services (OIOS).
We will study these observations, comments and recommendations carefully and look forward to discussing them further in informal consultations on the evaluation and review of the functions and reporting procedures of the OIOS, bearing in mind the overall objective of having an effective and efficient internal oversight function to assist the Secretary-General in fulfilling his internal oversight responsibilities.
We look forward to constructive discussions on these questions with the other Member States, the IAAC, the OIOS and the Secretariat.
