Summary: 9 July 2008, Brussels - Javier SOLANA, EU High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP), strongly condemns the attack against a UNAMID patrol perpetrated yesterday in North Darfur, in which seven peacekeepers were killed and twenty-two were wounded.
The High Representative extends his heartfelt condolences to the families of the peacekeepers who lost their lives in the attack and sends a message of solidarity with UNAMID to the United Nations Secretary-General, Ban Ki-moon, and the Chairman of the African Union Commission, Jean Ping.
Javier Solana reiterates the EU's support for UNAMID, the full deployment of which will contribute to improving the security of the people in need in Darfur.
