Yemen: EU Commission allocates €1m for victims of conflict in Sa'ada Governorate

Summary: 9 July 2008, Brussels - The European Commission has approved €1 million in emergency humanitarian aid to support victims of the conflict in Northern Yemen.

The funds will be used mainly to help people who have been internally displaced (IDPs) or who have been wounded in the fighting. The funds are being channeled through the Commission's Humanitarian Aid department under the responsibility of Commissioner Louis Michel.

The number of war-affected people is estimated to be at least 77,000. About 12,000 of those who have been displaced are accommodated in six camps in Sa'ada city, with between 15,000 and 30,000 others living with host families in the city.
