
Summary: EU Commissioner Dimas to address climate change issues in Davos (24 January 2007: Brussels)
European Environment Commissioner Stavros Dimas will participate from 25-27 January in the World Economic Forum annual meeting in Davos, Switzerland, where the economic implications of climate change will be one of the major issues. Over 2,000 leaders from business, politics, academia, the media and civil society are expected to attend.
Commissioner Dimas will speak at five events focusing on climate change, aviation emissions, biofuels and urban mobility. He will also hold a series of private meetings with other participants.
Commissioner Dimas will explain current EU policies and new initiatives such as the landmark energy and climate change package proposed by the Commission on 10 January. In view of the increasing urgency of controlling climate change, he will also underline the need to accelerate the pace of international discussions on a new global agreement to succeed the Kyoto Protocol after 2012.
