EUHR Solana congratulates Mr. Ban Ki-moon on his appointment as UN Secretary General

Javier SOLANA, EU High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP), today welcomed the election of Mr Ban Ki-moon by the United Nations General Assembly as the next UN Secretary General:

"I warmly congratulate Mr Ban Ki-moon on his election by the United Nations General Assembly as the next UN Secretary General. His election comes at a crucial time for the UN and presents an opportunity to step up the drive for UN reform and renewal.

I look forward to working closely with Mr Ban on the many challenges that we face on the international agenda.
