EUHR Solana calls on North Korea to return to talks

Summary: February 10, 2005: Javier SOLANA, EU High Representative for the CFSP, calls on North Korea to return to talks (Brussels)

Javier Solana, European Union High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP), made today the following remarks on the statements made by North Korea on the suspension of its participation in the six-party talks for an indefinite period:

"The EU strongly regrets the statement on the suspension of North Korea's participation in the six-party talks for an indefinite period.

The EU is not a participant in the talks, but we fully support them as the best instrument to deal with the nuclear issue on the Korean Peninsula.

Dialogue is the only way forward and we urge North Korea to rethink its decision and to return to talks.
