
Summary: February 8, 2005: US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice to visit Commission on 9 February (Brussels)
The new US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice will visit the European Commission, as part of her visit to Europe, on 9 February, in preparation of President Bush's visit to the European Union on 22 February.
President Barroso and Commissioner for External Relations and European Neighbourhood Policy, Benita Ferrero-Waldner, will receive Secretary Rice, before inviting her to join the External Relations Group of Commissioners in a discussion on how the EU and the US can promote democracy and opportunity around the globe. Commissioners attending this meeting also include Commissioner for Trade, Peter Mandelson, Commissioner for Enlargement, Olli Rehn, Commissioner for
Economic and Monetary Affairs, Joaquín Almunia, and Commissioner for Development and Humanitarian Aid, Louis Michel.
Media are invited to a press conference in the Commission press room (Berlaymont building) on 9 February at 16h45. Journalists are requested to arrive at the press room before 16h30.
