Dr. Javier Solana, EU High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy, made the following statement on the upcoming elections in Kosovo:
"I would like to call upon all the voters of all communities in Kosovo to participate in the 26 October 2002 municipal elections.
Full participation on 26 October is in the interest of all the people of Kosovo. Democracy and tolerance begins at local level. Participation ensures that your voice will be heard. Participation is a pre-condition to assume your own responsibilities.
For all these reasons, I strongly hope that all communities of Kosovo will make the right choice of full participation.
I would like to also express my support to the Special Representative of the UN General-Secretary Michael Steiner for his relentless efforts in helping Kosovo's authorities to build a multiethnic Kosovo in which all communities learn to live side by side in peace and security."
