Commissioner for External Relations Chris Patten participates on 16th July at the Quartet (EU, US, Russia, UN) meeting at Ministerial level on the Middle East, representing the European Union together with High Representative-Secretary General Javier Solana and the Danish Foreign Minister Per Stig Moller. The US is represented by Secretary of State Colin Powell, Russia by Foreign Minister Igor Ivanov and the UN by Secretary General Kofi Annan.

This meeting will be followed by a meeting of the Quartet with Arab Foreign Ministers (Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Jordan). Prior to this meeting Commissioner Patten will have a bilateral meeting with the Egyptian Foreign Minister Maher. Upon arrival in New York City on 15th of July Mr. Patten is scheduled to hold bilateral meetings with inter-alia UNDP Administrator Mark Malloch Brown, Dr. Henry Kissinger, former US Secretary of State, Mr. Edward Mortimer of the Office of UN Secretary General Annan and Tony Judt, President of the Remarque Institut.
